Art Hotel, Laguna Beach
REVIEWS
The reviews of Art Hotel are so variable, it’s almost like people are talking about different places. We had a 2-king room and it was perfect. The bathroom was very nice. The nearby beach was beautiful. The woman who checked us in was very nice and welcoming. The hotel has a nice personal touch. I also really liked that they provide chairs and boogie boards for the beach. Reunion Kitchen had been recommended to us when we asked for a dinner rec and we loved it there. A lot of reviews mention Patrick, who we did encounter. He’s very nice and eager to help, and I don’t want to hurt his feelings, but he’s too aggressive about pushing his favorite Arch-Angel, Michael on everyone, including my kids.

From the very moment we arrived, Patrick treated us like family. He has a way about him that makes everyone think they are the most important person at the hotel. The hotel is quirky and a little unusual but so fun when you're used to standard rooms that all look the same. Our rooms were large, with two king-size beds in each and the bathrooms were clean and modern. Loved sitting on the balcony every evening to see the sunset and watch the activities on the street. Good location, with easy access TO the beach, uphill climb on the way back! The hotel supplies beach chairs, umbrellas and towels, so no need to pack or rent/buy them for time spent at the beach, and then cool off with a popsicle on the way back to your room. The trolley stop is within 1/2 a block and is an excellent way to check out sites along the highway in Laguna Beach. We rode it to the end, marking sites to stop at and see later. Decent breakfast in the mornings and almost always, freshly baked cookies. Would definitely stay here again if we ever make it back to Laguna Beach!

I absolutely adore Patrick—he is truly a gem. He is the heart and soul of the Art Hotel, and without a doubt, the best part of Laguna Beach. He is a blessing, and it’s clear that he is sent from above. Patrick is by far the best hotel employee I have ever encountered. He is hardworking, selfless, and at times was a one-man show, pulling double shifts when other employees were unavailable. Despite the heavy workload, he always kept a smile on his face and remained positive. I hope the higher-ups truly appreciate what an asset he is, as he made both my mom's and my stay unforgettable and exhilarating. Patrick restored my faith in the best of humanity—he went above and beyond to make us feel like part of the family. His kindness, professionalism, and positivity made us feel comfortable and at ease, and there was such a warm, welcoming vibe. As for the hotel, we really enjoyed it. The room was cute, and the location was perfect—right across the street from the beach. The only issue was the lack of privacy on the balcony. We were so close to other rooms that it felt like everyone could see us, so we didn’t use the balcony for that reason. I wish there was more space between the rooms for a little more privacy. Additionally, I would like to suggest that the higher-ups consider adding a screen to the balcony door. Unfortunately, we couldn’t enjoy the ocean breeze throughout the day and night because we had to keep the door closed. This made the room feel a bit stuffy, and we missed the fresh air. Thankfully, the AC unit helped, and stepping outside provided some relief, but this was a minor issue I hope they address on our next visit. However, the amazing customer service from Alanda and Maria more than made up for it. They were friendly, efficient, and kind. We would definitely love to come back. Everyone at the hotel was fantastic, but above all, I’m so grateful to Patrick for making us feel so welcome. The little things like that make such a difference when choosing where to stay. It’s reassuring to know that you’re valued and wanted. I’ll definitely return because the customer service was excellent, and it’s so refreshing to be treated like a human being. It really feels good!

The rooms were very clean and also renovated inside. They looked like the photos. We liked the standing shower, king sized bed, and large flat screen TV. Also the A/C unit looks new and works well. Service by the friendly front desk staff was very good. Our only disappointment was that our room faced the Pacific Coast Hwy, which is four lanes of traffic all day, especially annoying are the people gunning the engines of loud motorcycles or cars. For me personally I don’t find that level of noise relaxing while on vacation and it does affect the enjoyment of the hotel overall. If you’re not noise sensitive then this hotel is great. It wasn’t possible to enjoy the sunny deck of our room and we had to keep the sliding glass doors closed. Crescent beach is across the street, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. And you can walk into the main part of town in about 20 minutes (1 mile away). There is a trolley bus, but the frequency is rather sporadic, the app didn’t work on the 2nd day, and rather than waiting 30-40 minutes for the Trolley, we just walked the whole way, which was very enjoyable. Recommend walking through the residential area, hugging the coastline, and using the scenic promenade to walk to town. Heisler Park was the highlight for us with its gorgeous tropical flowers and stunning views.

Rough night at the Art Hotel. Noisy, chemical smelly room, not supplied with towels. Got back from dinner and the sink was overflowing in the bathroom all over the floor and my stuff. I had not even used the sink yet.Had to change rooms. Look forward to some sort of refund. Also not enough staffing.
